The XXIX NATO chess championship took place in Texas Tech University in Lubbock, USA. The Polish Army representation won the NATO team champion title.
67 people from 10 allied countries (the U.S., Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia and the United Kingdom) participated in the tournament altogether.
The Polish Army team included MUT soldiers: 2nd Lt. Aleksander Stańkowski and Sgt. cdt. Marcin Pietruszewski. In the team classification the successive places belong to: 1. Poland, 2. Germany, 3. Greece, 4. USA, 5. Denmark.
2nd Lt. Aleksander Stańkowski and Sgt. cdt. Marcin Pietruszewski, were awarded with congratulatory letters from the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the Deputy Minister — Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Defense Marek Łapiński.
The MUT Vice-Rector for Military Affairs Col. Artur Król, DSc, Eng. awarded soldiers: “Thank you for your dedication and commitment. You are the pride of the Military University of Technology”.
Having won the team championship title, the Polish chess players commemorated in this way the 100th anniversary of regaining independence by Poland.
