The Polish Army team wins NATO chess tournament

Between 4th and 8th June the XXIX NATO chess cham­pi­onship took place in Texas Tech Uni­ver­si­ty in Lub­bock, USA. The Pol­ish Army rep­re­sen­ta­tion won the NATO team cham­pi­on title.

67 peo­ple from 10 allied coun­tries par­tic­i­pat­ed in the tour­na­ment alto­geth­er. The Pol­ish Army team includ­ed MUT sol­diers: 2nd Lt. Alek­sander Stańkows­ki and Sgt. cdt. Marcin Pietruszews­ki. In the team clas­si­fi­ca­tion the suc­ces­sive places belong to: 1. Poland, 2. Ger­many, 3. Greece, 4. USA, 5. Den­mark.

Indi­vid­u­al­ly, gold was award­ed to cdt. Anas­ta­sios Pavlidis, Greece with 6 points, sil­ver to 2nd Lt. Dami­an Graczyk from Spe­cial Unit of Mil­i­tary Police in Mińsk Mazowiec­ki with 5,5 points and bronze to Pvt. Eli­jah Everett from Ger­many.

Hav­ing won the team cham­pi­onship title, the Pol­ish chess play­ers com­mem­o­rat­ed in this way the 100th anniver­sary of regain­ing inde­pen­dence by Poland.
